"Grandmas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Play Favorites" is the sixth episode of season 1. The title is a reference to Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings' song Mamas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys.

Miley's Grandmother, Mamaw Ruthie (Vicki Lawrence) visits. From the onset she seems to favor Jackson, virtually ignoring Miley, even when Jackson gets a special gift from Mamaw for his upcoming volleyball tournament Miley gets the disgusting airplane headphones, old man hair and all, she got off the plane. Miley as Hannah Montana is scheduled to perform for the Queen of England (Helen Duffy) and her granddaughter. The queen runs late forcing the family to wait but Jackson who has a volleyball match says he can't be late for it. Mamaw goes to find the queen to get her to hurry up, Miley gets angry at Jackson saying that its his fault Mamaw is doing this and insinuated he was selfish by saying "Everything's all about you". Jackson retorts by saying it's never about him and always about Miley, that no matter what he does it's always second to Hannah Montana before leaving. Miley, hurt, asks Mamaw why she likes Jackson better. Mamaw explains that she does not like Jackson better, but is giving Jackson special attention since Miley (as Hannah) usually gets all of the attention leaving him feeling 'invisible'. Mamaw then ditches the hotel to attend Jackson's volleyball game. Hannah, feeling bad, speeds up the royal performance so she too can attend Jackson's game. In her haste Hannah forgets to turn back into Miley.

At the volleyball game, Jackson's partner had the flu so Mamaw plays volleyball as Jackson's partner. Even though Jackson, with Mamaw's help, wins the game, Hannah gets all of the attention again when she is spotted beneath the rafters. After the game Miley comes back and apologizes about the attention being focused on her instead of him and he accepts her apology, because she blew off the queen just to see his game and that made him happy. The episode ends with Mamaw and the Queen playing "Dance Dance Revolution" during the credits in the Stewarts' living room.
